I want to know if Christians in the West interested in reading the biblical origin of Chinese people? I have written a book about this. EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK "MIIDDLE KINGDOM - The Legendary Beginning of China"
IN AD 635, ALUOBEN, a Persian bishop, from the AssyrianChurch of the East and his entourage arrived in Chang An (Xian), the capital of the Tang Dynasty. They were warmly welcome by Emperor Taizong. Aluoben presented the Christian Gospel to the emperor and won his favor and reverence. Immediately, Aluoben was commissioned to translate the gospel for the Chinese people. For the next 200 years Nestorian Christianity mixed with Taoist and Buddhist messages was spread all over China. Hundreds of Christian temples were erected. This rising new religion in Tang China was called the “Luminous Religion”. Their eastern and western philosophies entwined Gospel was successfully evangelized to the Chinese people and won many followers.
Unfortunately by AD 845, the renaissance of Confucianism had led to the persecution of the Luminous followers and the ultimate destruction of their existence in China. Many centuries passed after the great persecution, the Luminous Religion and its Christian based evangelism were totally forgotten in China.
A Stone Sutra Stele dated AD 781 was unearthed in a grave site by accident in AD 1625 in Xian. It recounted the major events and teachings of the Luminous Religion which began in AD 635 during the Tang Dynasty. On top of the stone stele was a small cross fended by two dragons. There is no doubt the symbol is the Christian cross. The Stone Sutra Stele is now displayed in the Forest of Stone Stele Museum in Xian.
Despite the Stone Sutra Stele has been unearthed for centuries, no one in China has any interest in researching and finding out the background of events recounted on the stele. If not because of the devoted research of Martin Palmer, author of the book “The Jesus Sutra” and a passionate westerner in Chinese culture, the religious and cultural significance of the Stone Sutra Stele will never be known to the world.
Chinese people including me are not aware of Christianity had entered China in such an early date in the past. In fact, I think Chinese people have no idea that Christianity had been thriving in China for 200 years during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907)! Believers of Christ had arrived in China in the 5th Century much earlier than most people think of the first Christian missionary by Jesuit Matteo Ricci who arrived in China in AD 1601. Early Christian impact to the Chinese world was not deep until the arrival of Aluoben in AD 635. Thereafter, Christianity was widespread in Tang China for 200 years. However even this profound impact of Christianity in China had a short lived memory in the mind of Chinese people. The ancient Chinese world was like a pot of steaming and delicious soup boiled with all kinds of enhancing ingredients but all Chinese people could remember was the taste.
What if the same event had happened way back in the beginning time of China? What if the believers of Yahweh from the line of Seth and Shem had reached pre-dynastic China and spread the knowledge of God and the early stories in the Book of Genesis to early Chinese people? Could it be how people in the legendary history of China possess knowledge of a supreme god called Shang-Ti, kingdom of heaven, and the mandate of heaven?
Much like the fate of the Luminous Religion which ended in total oblivion, the believers of Yahweh from the line of Seth and Shem in China were totally forgotten and their faith gradually eroded into obscurity.
I believe some ancient migrants in pre-dynastic China were from the line of Seth and Shem. They were steadfast believers and messengers of Yahweh in everywhere they went. They were the ones who seeded China with the knowledge of monotheism and the early stories in the Book of Genesis. They were part of the population in the legendary beginning of China. Their teaching of love, righteousness, and morality to early Chinese people was invaluable but gone unnoticed and forgotten. They were the sources of inspiration where virtuous emperors appeared in the still untamed world of pre-dynastic China.
The beginning history of China is shrouded in legends. The time where the legendary history happened was even sketchy (see Suggested Timeline in Appendix). There is no solid archaeological evidence of the existence of Yellow Emperor (around 2800 BC) and the Xia Dynasty (2205 BC to 1766 BC) which was regarded as the earliest tribal dynasty in China. There is still debate whether Yellow Emperor is a fictitious or really historical figure. However, to most of Chinese people in China, they believe they are the proud descendants of Yellow Emperor.
Before Yellow Emperor appeared, Chinese legends said a handful of sages appeared out of nowhere separately over an unknown period of time to teach the primitive Chinese people to become more civilized. Who were these mysterious sages? Where did they come from? And how did they become wiser than their own primitive fellowmen?
If the sages were children from the primitive Chinese people, they must be born prodigies. Chinese people must be grateful for the timely miracles of their appearance to help their primitive ancestors transformed into civilized people.
If the sages were not born from the primitive Chinese people, then they had to come from a higher culture outside China where they had acquired their knowledge.
There is simply no third alternative to the origin of the sages. They were either a born genius or a foreign genius. There is no way that primitive people could reinvent themselves by begot prodigies to civilize their own people ....

If based on the Bible's ancient prophecies, Chinese is surely the children of Joseph (son of Jacob).
Let's take a look at Jacob's last blessings and unfolding prophecies in Genesis 49 :
Jacob Blesses His Sons
1 Then Jacob called for his sons and said: "Gather around so I can tell you what will happen to you in days to come.
2 "Assemble and listen, sons of Jacob;
listen to your father Israel.
22 "Joseph is a fruitful vine,
a fruitful vine near a spring,
whose branches climb over a wall. [j]
23 With bitterness archers attacked him;
they shot at him with hostility.
24 But his bow remained steady,
his strong arms stayed [k] limber,
because of the hand of the Mighty One of Jacob,
because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel,
25 because of your father's God, who helps you,
because of the Almighty, [l] who blesses you
with blessings of the heavens above,
blessings of the deep that lies below,
blessings of the breast and womb.
26 Your father's blessings are greater
than the blessings of the ancient mountains,

There were very obvious "unfolding" keyword-prophecies there :
1. wall, which nations on earth who could be strongly related to a unique wall as their symbol? China! The Great Wall.
2. hostility archers, who could be considered the best and most hostile archers in the world? The Mongols! The worldwide unbeatable notorious barbarians, but the Chinese could finally beat them for good because of the help of the Mighty One of Jacob.
3. blessings of the breast and womb, who is the most populous nation on earth? The Chinese! Ok maybe also the Indians, but they don't have the "wall" and they never beat the "Mongols" to match all odds in that prophecy!

Thanks JL for your insight. Your theory can also apply to any nation with ancient long fortified walls, ancient great archer warriors, and large population. The Hadrian wall in England, the Sycthians (great archers on horse) in East Eurasia, Indo-Hindu population came to mine.
I'm inclined to look at early Chinese legends and history especially where did the primitive Chinese people that lived on trees, the 5 sages who civilized the Chinese people, Yellow Emperor, the 3 virtuous emperors (Yao, Shun, Yu), and the worship of Shang-Ti by the Shang people in the beginning time of China came from? Could there be a connection with the descendants of Shem that had migrated to early China? If so, they would be the remote ancestors of the early Chinese people. In fact, all China can remember are legends at the beginning time of its history is puzzling... There have to be people from outside China contributing the rise of Chinese civilization.

There's another prophecy about Sinim and again also symbolized with "wall" in Isaiah 49 :
12 Surely these shall come from afar;
Look! Those from the north and the west,
And these from the land of Sinim.”

For the LORD has comforted His people,
And will have mercy on His afflicted.

1. Sinim in Hebrew is China/Sino.

Hi JL, I'm familiar with Sinim in Isaiah 49. Yes, I believe it is referring to China, but some Bible scholars believe Sinim is in Egypt (which I disagree).
Chinese people belongs to the Mongoloid race, so a bigger perspective when searching for Chinese in the Bible is find verses that related to people, things, blessings, and curses in the East.
On the other hand, a bigger perspective when searching for Caucasians in the Bible is find verses that pinpoint those people, for example, Romans, Greeks, Assyrians, Persians, Canaanites... who are mentioned there. For Negro, we can find Ethiopians and Egyptians mentioned in the Bible.
It is the Mongoloid people that are not easy to find in the Bible. Sinim is the only place mentioned in the Bible that suggested it is a far away place such as China. And especially, the name Sinim suggested it has something to do with Chinese surname "Chin", "Qin", "Chang", and the prefix "Sino" which denotes things related to China, thus, the term "Sinology".

Hi JL, We must praise God for sustaining Chinese people over 5,000 years. China has gone through much sufferings in the past, but she has had also several centuries of glory and power. If Chinese people focus only the glory part of their history, and ignore the suffering part, Chinese people are no better people than the Mongols, Romans, and other arrogant races in the world. God allows suffering to humble man's pride. Chinese people are a great people not because they're better than other, but because they have become wiser through humility and perseverance. God blesses all races even the Mongols. Great people are greater because they have mastered humility and subdued pride.

Hi Chin, the legendary 5 sages are YouChou (have nest), Suiren (fire maker), Fuxi (known for inventing tools to improve quality of life), Nuwa (known for teaching silk worm farming and weaving to the Chinese), Shennong (also known as Flame Emperor).

I guess Nuwa could be Noah, probably due to oral transmission of history causing gender distortion (e.g. Chinese buddhist Kwan-in goddess was said to have male origin), his accomplishments were the same: savior from big flood; progenitor of human race. Shennong was contemporary of Huangdi according to Shiji first chapter Wu di ben ji. What about Pangu? Where did he fit in?
Hi Chin, Youchou is the sage who taught primitive Chinese people to build hut on the tree. Suiren is the sage who taught Chinese people how to make fire. All 5 sages originated from Chinese legends and folklores. Check your local library by subject in Chinese legends and myths. Most likely you can find books about them.
Nuwa is a woman. Legends say she is wife of Fuxi. And Shennong existed earlier than Yellow Emperor. Shennong started the Yin Dynasty, Yin meaning Flame, thus, he was called the Flame Emperor. The last of the Flame Emperor (Shennong descendant) fought Yellow Emperor. He was defeated and killed, so Yellow Emperor conquered all China and became the first tribal king of China.
The story of Pangu came from folklore 1000s of years after Yellow Emperor, thus, it is more fiction than truth.

Thanks for your biblical explanation on the Blessings of China. Before, I used to believe that the English-speaking people are the real descendants of Joseph in Ephraim's descent. Yet let's not forget that Jewish people lived in Shanghai during Hitler's rage.

the chinese people can survive in any culture and country while preserving their own. their love for parents, respect for the aged and family bond is evident in any chinese. the chinese christians are the most devoted and religious in Asia especially in the Philippines. their strict and conservative traits are one of the reasons China still is China today for 5000 years.
Hi Ahia, I agree everything what you said. Jewish and Chinese people share similar family values. We're both very family oriented, obedience to parents, and pay high reverence to our ancestors. Jewish and Chinese cultures are amazingly preserved over 5,000 years despite both races had been conquered, humiliated, and almost wiped out by enemies. Chinese people have to thank God for His love and grace. God is blessing China now! Praise the Lord!!!

Ahia, those are also some of the characteristic and trait of Joseph, imho.
Here are some more of Joseph's : reliable and beloved by his father, got the prophetic "coat of many colors" (same as the prophetic "clothes of many ornaments" in Isaiah 49:18), very forgiving even he was despised (although he's good-looking and good-doing), almost killed/wiped out, sold as slave, etc. etc.
Then Joseph also was separated from his father and brothers, hardworking, trustable, became a farmer and a trader (not a shepherd/nomad like his brothers) and made a successful state-owned system during the famine, financed them and took 20% for the nation and gave back 80% for the workers. I don't know much about politic and economic, but what is that system called today? Is that also a very similar and coincidence-trait again?!! C'mon... :D
However, Joseph trust the true "LIVING G-d" above everything else, even above his own systems and benefits.
The rest of his story and future prophecy are written clearly, since the ancient time, in the Bible...

Happy Valentines Day to All! Just want to ask how about the many similarities of Japanese and Jewish words, Shinto rituals like the ark of the covenant, tabernacle and symbols. The Jewish authorities headed by Israeli Ambassador Cohen of Japan authenticated those things to be Hebrew by origin.
Does God speak only of China by Sinim and how about Japan who has much more similarities with the ancient Hebrews?
If we are to belive the Bible, we also have to believe the prophecies written in the Bible, unfolding biblically. The unfolding prophecy is the real living proof that the prophecy is truely coming from the Living G-d (not man-made/idols). Therefore, I believe one needs to look at the unfolding history, the character, and the unfolding coming events, of that nation to match "all odds" in any of the prophecy that is thought belongs to that nation.
I guess we all could start doing our homework now to find out and share about them here... :)
Hi Capapas Neil Lim, Chinese, Japanese, Korean,Siberian, Mongolian, and Tibetan are classified under Mongoloid by race classification. We're bascially separated by natiionality, although we do have some unique physical and facial attributes that could distinguish us separately. The Bible hardly mentions anything about Far East Asians. Sinim is a possible reference to China because of the prefix "Sin" which evolved into "Sino" in Latin to refer to China. There is no mentioning of or hinting to Japan, Korea, Mongolia etc in the Bible. Mongoloid is the race of East Asians, so we've to see ourselves as Mongoloid on this as a whole. Like the Brown and European Caucasians, they're separated by nationality as well. They're basically under the Caucasoid race. The Africans are under the Negroid race.
Having Israeli Ambassador Cohen in Japan authenticated those things you said to be Hebrew by origin is good news to the Japanese people that their origin had a biblical connection.
Indeed it is true character about Joseph that speaks of the Chinese people.China now has eclipsed Japan as the 2nd largest economy in the world whom Japan held for 48 years. China has alleviated the Brazilians and Africans from poverty with their trading and investments.
From US$56million to US$7.8 billion China invested in African nations and lend them money.
Perhaps the color of the skin of Jacob and of Esau must have been comparing a Chinese and Caucasian. Jacob must have favored Joseph maybe he got the likeness of his father Jacob not only bec. he is a son of Rachel.
